How does Swifly update itself on macOS?

Swifly for macOS updates itself automatically: it checks for new versions in the background, downloads them without interrupting you, and installs the update the next time you quit the app. You don't need to download anything manually or visit a website to stay up to date.

How the update process works

Swifly periodically checks for new versions in the background. When an update is found, it downloads automatically while you keep working — dictation is never interrupted for a download.

The update is not installed right away. Instead, Swifly waits until you quit the app, then installs the new version silently. The next time you open Swifly, you're already on the latest version.

If you're in the middle of a dictation (recording, transcribing, or inserting text) when you quit, Swifly will not let an update installation cut that off — the app finishes what it's doing first.

Checking for updates manually

You don't have to wait for the background check. Open the Swifly overlay and use the Check for Updates option to trigger a check right away. If a new version is available, it downloads in the background the same way as an automatic check.

If an update fails

If Swifly repeatedly fails to download or apply an update, you'll see an Update failed notice in the app suggesting you restart Swifly to retry. Restarting the app clears the issue and lets the next check try again normally.

Do I need to do anything?

No. Updates happen automatically in the background and install themselves the next time you quit Swifly. Simply keep using the app as usual — restarting it from time to time (or letting your Mac restart it) is enough to stay current.
